Hello friends, allow me to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my training and professional experience, and how I began my own journey in the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® which includes the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods (1).
I am a physician by training and a scientist by trade. I obtained my M.D. degree in Italy, in 1983, and moved to the USA in 1985 to pursue a career in biomedical research at the National Cancer Institute. Since 1988, I taught Pathology and Microbiology to Medical and Graduate Students at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, SC, where I also directed a research laboratory that studied the role of human papillomavirus in various forms of cancer and I directed or co-directed 26 Ph.D. students. In a nutshell, I have been a scientist and a teacher all of my professional life. I retired from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in July, 2019.
My experience with the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® began in March, 2012, when I was experiencing severe and recurring back pain. I was captivated immediately, and became even more determined to become a trainer and a student of this discipline, when my back pain disappeared after just a few sessions of Gyrotonic exercise. I must say that I have seen similar things happen with my fellow Trainers and with clients of mine who began Gyrotonic training because of back pain, and resolved it or at least improved dramatically over time. I must add that Gyrotonic exercise has the potential to help with a variety of physical conditions, including but not limited to osteoporosis, scoliosis and arthritis. Advanced Gyrotonic exercise is practiced by dancers and elite athletes to promote recovery from injury, prevent injury, and improve performance. For example, learn about the experience of Master Trainer (MT) Rich O'Conner in https://www.gyrotonic.com/why-i-practice-the-gyrotonic-and-gyrokinesis-methods/ and other articles in the blog at https://www.gyrotonic.com I invite you to take advantage of the resources that the above web site has to offer and to return to it often for information.
As a medical doctor and a scientist, I am keenly interested in the therapeutic potential of Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis practice. I teach, practice, and also study the Gyrotonic Expansion System with the hope of exploring, understanding, and taking full advantage of all of its therapeutic and health-promoting benefits, for myself and for the clients I seek to help.
In addition with training in Gyrotonic Level 1 and Level 2 programs 1 and 2, have taken specialized Gyrotonic courses with therapeutic focus, such as: Gyrotonic Applications for Healing and Rejuvenation of Hands and Feet with MT Emma Kingston; Gyrotonic Applications for Scoliosis, followed by a year of weekly group training sessions focusing in the principles of Gyrotonic Applications for the Shoulder Girdle, Pelvic Girdle, and Scoliosis, with MT Uwe Herbstreit; and Gyrotonic Applications for Osteoporosis with MT Justine Bernard. You can find here a full list of the training courses I attended as a Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis trainer.
In June, 2018, I established in Columbia, SC a studio dedicated to the teaching and practice of Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis exercise. The studio, named "Spiral to Health, LLC" is now directed by two of my friends that began their Gyrotonic studies as clients of mine, and became so enamored with the discipline that they decided to become trainers, themselves. Thus, Spiral to Health, LLC, is still alive and well in Columbia, SC, despite the fact that I moved over 2,000 miles away. I am starting my journey as a trainer, again, here in Apache Junction, with more experience and even more enthusiasm than I had the first time. Come see me and experience for yourself this discipline that has the potential to tremendously improve the way you stand, move, and relate to your own body.
